An amazing place where people lives under the earth.

Located in Southern Australia. Village name "Coober Pedy". People live inside the opal mine underneath the earth.

 



Do you know there exists a village which is underneath the earth? Yeah, it’s true. Located in southern Australia, this village named” Coober Pedy “ is inhibited by people working in Opal mines. People have made houses inside the mines. This mine produces largest quantity of opal and is also known as “Opal Capital of the World”.


Opal is a milky white crystalline gemstone commonly used in jewelry. This mine is located in desert so due to extreme hot weather in summers as well as extreme cold weather during winters have forced them to make houses under the earth. There are small house above the earth made up of mud which are the entrance of their homes. The stair make way down which opens into luxurious drawing rooms, big bedrooms and beautiful living rooms just as bungalows made on the earth.

Around 60% of the people have same type of architectures and the houses are mesmerizing. This type of architecture makes insulation from intense heat and cold weather around the year. Due to its unique landscape and architecture many Hollywood films have been shot here.  The film “Pitch Black “crew have left there spacecraft after shooting creating a landmark for the area.  Tourists have been attracted to this area. This mine was operation from 1915 and since that time many of the miners made there shelter around the mines. But harsh weather condition made living hostile so the miners took shelter under the mines after these mines were abandoned.
